In this course, participants will engage in a comprehensive learning experience centered around the art of creating grillz. The curriculum consists of three sequential courses:

Jewelry 1 - Basics includes:

  • - Creating a custom bezel setting for a stone

  • - Techniques in sawing, filing, sanding, soldering

  • - Crafting a ring

  • - Stamping and hammering for texture

  • - Polishing and applying patina

Lost Wax Casting 1 - Basics includes:

  • - An overview of the lost wax casting process

  • - Techniques for carving wax models

  • - Demonstrations on creating rings and charm-sized pendants, with opportunities to create earrings and other jewelry forms

  • - Strategies for building up wax models

  • - Modification and maintenance of wax carving tools

  • - Setting up a workspace for wax model creation at home

  • - Guidelines for outsourcing castings for reproduction

  • - Understanding model requirements for reproduction

  • - The casting process, including sprue, invest, and the two common styles of casting: vacuum assisted and centrifugal casting

  • - Instructions for establishing your own casting equipment

  • - Techniques for polishing castings

  • - Overview of materials used

  • - Safety and compliance, including OSHA standards and jewelry regulations

  • - Tools & Equipment

  • -Dental Impressions & Mold Making (molding kit included)

  • - Proper techniques for taking dental impressions

  • - Creating plaster molds and casting models

  • - Identifying common issues (such as air bubbles and distortion)

  • Fitting & Repair

A full-color handout will be provided for the course. Participants will also have the opportunity to create a personalized workbook that includes this handout.
